Nick laid on the couch and stared at the ceiling.  He heard the door open and close and Brian came in.

      Go ahead, tell me what a fuck up I am, I dont care, I know I am, Nick said.

      You hurt my sister, Nick, thats unforgivable, Brian said.

      I know! Nick said.

      I let you two date because I knew you wouldnt hurt her, that was the mistake I made, Brian said.

      I didnt mean to hurt her, Brian, Nick said.

      But you did, and now you are paying for it, our friendship is over, Brian said. He left. Nick laid there staring at the ceiling. He heard the front door open and close and Theresa came in.

      Nicky, Theresa said coming over.

      I lost my girl, my baby, and my best friend, wow, whos next, you? Nick said.

      No, Kevin and I had a fight about this, he is taking Brians side, Im on your side, Theresa said.

      T, why would you want to be on my side when I hurt your best friend, Nick said.

      She is like a sister to me, Nick, and you did, but you didnt mean to, Theresa said.

      Why am I so stupid, I had everything and now its gone, I shouldnt have gone to the club in the first place, Nick said.

      Im here if you need anything, Theresa said.

      I need Brizee, Nick said.

      I cant help you there, Theresa said.

      Then get out, Nick said.

      Nick, stop it, okay, I know you are upset and all, but throwing people who care about you out isnt going to help anything, Theresa said.

      I want Briz back, T, if no one can help, then I dont need anybody caring about me! Nick said.

      Fine, Theresa said. She got up and walked out.

Brizee sat in her parents house. Jackie and Harold sat at the table.

      Brizee, I know what Nick did was wrong, but think of the baby, honey, the baby needs its father, Jackie said.

      He blew it, Mom, when he got drunk, he promised me he wouldnt! Brizee said.

      He made a mistake, honey, we all make mistakes but you know he loves you, Jackie said. Brizee looked at her.

      I thought you would be on my side, Mom, Brizee said.

      Briz, honey, I am, okay, I thought this wouldnt happen, that you wouldnt get hurt, that Nick wouldnt hurt you, but now there is a baby involved, Jackie said.

      Ill be just fine on my own, I called Brian and he said he ended his friendship with Nick, Brizee said.

      Oh, Jackie said.

      Im going to go lay down, okay, Brizee said. She went upstairs. Jackie looked at Harold.

      What should we do? Jackie said.

      Get them back together, call Nick, Harold said. Jackie picked up the phone and dialed Nicks number.

Five hours later, there was a knock at the door. Brizee came downstairs and opened the door and saw Nick standing there. Jackie and Harold came to the door.

      Thank you for coming, Nick, come on in, Jackie said. Nick came in and looked at Brizee.

      Mom, Brizee said.

      Honey, we are settling this, now, Jackie said.

      Forget it, Brizee said. She headed upstairs.

      Brizee Sue Littrell, get back down here now, Jackie said sternly.

      Mom, when are you going to get it, Im better off on my own! Brizee yelled. She went to her room and slammed the door and locked it. Jackie looked at Nick.

      Im sorry, Nick, Jackie said.

      Its my fault, Jackie, I shouldnt have gone to that club or at least left the same time Brian did, Nick said. They heard Brizee scream out. Nick ran upstairs and tried to open the door.

      Brizee! Nick yelled. He heard her crying.

      Brizee, open the door, Nick said.

      I cant! Brizee cried.

      Why not! Nick said.

      I cant move, it hurts! Brizee cried.

      What hurts?! Nick said.

      The baby! Brizee cried. Nick looked at Jackie.

      Do you have a key?! Nick asked.

      No, Jackie said.

      Ill have to break the door down, Nick said.

      Go ahead, well fix it, just get to her, Harold said. Nick broke the door down and saw Brizee lying on the bed clutching her stomach. He ran to the bed.

      Brizee, Nick said.

      Somethings wrong, it hurts! Brizee said crying. Nick looked at Jackie.

      Ill call 911, Jackie said. She ran downstairs. Nick took Brizee in his arms.

      Im scared, Nicky, Brizee said crying as she held onto him.

      Im not leaving you, Nick said. Jackie came in talking on the phone.

      Okay, the ambulance should be here shortly, Jackie said. Brizee clutched onto Nick.

      I cant lose the baby, Nick, I cant! Brizee said crying. Nick held her close.

The ambulance came and loaded Brizee up and Nick got in with me.

      Sir, family only, the paramedic said.

      Hes the father of my baby, please, I dont want him to leave my side, Brizee said holding onto Nicks hand.

      Okay, the paramedic said. The ambulance went to the hospital. Ten minutes later, Brizee was in a room with Nick. He sat there holding her hand. A woman in a white coat came in.

      Hi Brizee, Im Dr. Andrews, lets see whats causing the pains, how far along are you? Dr. Andrews said.

      Five months, Brizee said.

      Are you the father? Dr. Andrews asked Nick.

      Yes, I am, Nick said. Dr. Andrews got out a machine and lifted up Brizees hospital gown to reveal her stomach. She put some jelly on Brizees stomach and started up the machine.

      If you would watch the screen, a picture should come up, Dr. Andrews said.  Nick and Brizee looked at the screen. A picture popped up.

      Is that? Nick said.

      That is your baby, Dr. Andrews said. She turned the sound on. They heard a sound.

      What is that, Nick said.

      The thumping sound is the sound of your babys heartbeat, Dr. Andrews said. 

      So the baby is okay, Brizee said.

      Let me run some tests and see why you had those pains, Dr. Andrews said. She ran the tests. She left the room. Brizee laid there.

      We heard our babys heartbeat, Nicky, maybe the babys okay, Brizee said.

      I hope so, Nick said. He looked at the bed.

      Nick, Im sorry for leaving, Brizee said.

      It was my fault, I got drunk, I shouldnt have gone to that club, or I should have left when Brian did, Im so sorry, Nick said.

      I forgive you, now about that girl, Brizee said.

      I swear I dont know who she was, Nick said.

      Did you do anything with her, Brizee said.

      No, I swear, she said we didnt do anything, I woke up with my clothes on and a huge hangover, Nick said.

      Okay, Brizee said.

      I love you so much, Briz, Nick said.

      I love you, too, Brizee said. He kissed her softly.

      I promise you I will never drink again and this time, Im going to keep it, Nick said.

      Good, Brizee said.  Dr. Andrews came in.

      Brizee, the tests show that everything is fine, you got a little stressed and that isnt good for the baby, you have to remain calm at all times, I will call your doctor in Florida and tell her about this, okay, you cant get stressed out, okay, Dr. Andrews said.
